Borough firefighters, along members of Fair Lawn Ambulance and Fair Lawn Rescue, got to the woman within moments of the first emergency call, just after 11:30 a.m., borough Police Sgt. Richard Schultz said.

Frances L. Fleischer was taken to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center.

Schultz said he didn’t know the extent of her injuries.

“It appears that Fleischer was driving her 2007 Nissan westbound on Fair Lawn Ave [and] swerved to the right for some unknown reason before striking a public service utility pole,” the sergeant said in email.

“The vehicle rotated and flipped over as a result and came to rest on its right side,” he wrote. “The driver had her small dog unrestrained within the vehicle. [T]he dog appears not to have been injured….

“The utility pole was broken in two from the impact[,] causing a power disruption to several nearby homes.

“Public Service [Electric & Gas] was notified and was on scene working to repair the damage to the pole before the officers had cleared the scene,” Schultz wrote.
