Charles A. Sheridan, 84, Glen Rock Resident

GLEN ROCK, N.J. – Charles A. Sheridan, of Glen Rock, died Friday, Jan. 22. He was 84.

He was born June 8, 1931, in the Bronx, N.Y., to Charles and Elizabeth (McCarthy) Sheridan. Upon graduation from Power Memorial High School in 1949, he enlisted and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, where he achieved the rank of staff sergeant and received numerous accommodations. 

He married Dorothy (Goff) Jan. 3, 1953. They relocated from the Bronx in 1970 to raise their six children in Glen Rock.

He was an active member of St. Catharine Parish. He volunteered at the Ridgewood Valley Hospital as a Eucharistic minister for almost 30 years. He worked at Western Union and Metro-North Railroad. He also had several part-time jobs as a security guard and crossing guard to help support his family. After retirement, he was the van driver for West Bergen Mental Healthcare for 10 years.

He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy.

He is survived by his children, Carol Anne Toro, and her husband, Gary, the Rev. William P. Sheridan, director of campus ministry/Newman Apostolate for the Archdiocese of Newark, James P. Sheridan and his wife, Diane, Dorothy and husband, Tom Keenan, Marie and her husband, Gary Aramini, Charles P. Sheridan and his wife, Donna; and grandchildren Luke, Liam, Jenna, Caitlin, James, Daniel, Therese, Devon, Matthew, Christine, Catherine and Gary.

The family will receive friends from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday at Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Catharine’s Roman Catholic Church, 905 S. Maple Ave., Glen Rock. Interment will follow at Maryrest Cemetery, 25 Seminary Road, Mahwah.
