Rahway police are on high alert after a recent increase residential burglaries and vehicle thefts in the city. Police said burglars are forcibly entering residences to steal key fobs for luxury vehicles like BMWs (X5, X6, X7, M3). A homeowner recently called police after hearing a disturbance outside their home, which officers believe was likely an attempted vehicle theft. A vacant home went up in flames in a two-alarm fire in Rahway on the evening of Tuesday, April 16, authorities said. At 11 p.m., the Rahway Police Department and Rahway Fire Department responded to 1334 Pierce St. for a fire in a vacant 2-story 1-family wood frame home, Rachel Smith, the chief communications officer for the city said. A 26-year-old Rahway woman was sentenced to 10 years in state prison on Friday, Jan. 26 after being found guilty of fatally stabbing her mother on in Feb. 2020 authorities said. Malika Jones was sentenced after being convicted of aggravated manslaughter, Union County Prosecutor William Daniel and Rahway Police Director Nicholas Breiner said. Elijah Finis, an 18-year-old Woodbridge teenager was charged Tuesday, August 15 with sexually assaulting a Rahway woman on Thursday, August 10, authorities said. At 11 a.m., Rahway police responded to the 2000 block of Elizabeth Avenue and met with a woman who said she had been sexually assaulted by Finis, who entered her residence unlawfully, Union County Prosecutor William A. A Rahway dog training center has been ordered shut after videos showing workers abusing animals began surfacing on social media. Bubba Luv Dog Training and Rescue, located on Main Street, was issued a notice to vacate based on violations of uniform construction code, Mayor Raymond Giacobbe said. Gary O’Neill, 67, was driving a Chevrolet Malibu north on St. George’s Avenue near Stanley Place in Rahway when he veered across the southbound lanes and hit a tree just after 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 9, police said in an update.
