Former Newark Cop Gets Five Years For Vehicular Homicide, Attempted Coverup
Louis Santiago, a 26-year-old Bloomfield resident and former Newark police officer, was sentenced to five years in prison for fatally striking a pedestrian while driving drunk and then driving home with the victim's body in his car, authorities said.
Santiago had previously pled guilty to reckless vehicular homicide, desecrating human remains and driving under the influence in the death of Damian Dymka, a 29-year-old Garfield resident, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II said.

Two people have been charged in the shooting death of a 14-year-old boy at a New Jersey gas station over the weekend.
Tamir Phillips, 22, of Bensalem, PA, and Chelsea Holman, 29, of Willingboro, NJ, were arrested in the death of Jesse Everett on Aug. 21, the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office announced Tuesday.
Phillips was charged with first degree murder and weapons offenses while Holman was slapped with hindering apprehension and obstruction of justice.

Roundup: 19 Weapons Seized, 12 Arrested In Newark
More than a dozen firearms were recovered in a series of gun arrests in Newark since last week, authorities said.
The firearms were recovered in the city’s dozen gun arrests between Dec. 6 and Dec. 12, Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose said in a release.
In addition to being charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, many suspects face other charges, including robbery and kidnapping, authorities said.
