A 17-year-old girl was shot and killed in Newark Wednesday, June 8, authorities said. Nyasia Peppers, of Newark, had already died at Beth Israel Hospital when officers arrived at the crime scene on the 100 block of Goodwin Avenue around 11:15 p.m., Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Griffin, 36, of Newark, was shot on the 300 block of Mount Prospect Avenue in the Second Precinct just before 7 p.m., Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II said in a joint release. Police in Newark are seeking the public's help in locating an Irvington man who is wanted for questioning in a shooting last month. Haywood Covington, 29, has been wanted by police since Thursday, March 31.
