Retired State Trooper Suffered Medical Episode Before Route 287 Crash: Family, Police The driver who died in a crash on Route 287 in Morris County this week has been identified as retired New Jersey State Trooper Kevin Hanrahan.  Hanrahan, 61, was heading north near milepost 31.4 in Harding Township around 9:05 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, when he ran off the road to the left and struck a metal guardrail, New Jersey State Police Trooper Charles Marchan said. Hawthorne Firefighters Protect Home From Garage Blaze Hawthorne firefighters quickly doused a detached garage fire, protecting a borough home. The blaze broke out in a garage on Summer Street behind the homeowner's Lafayette Avenue residence around 10 p.m. Friday, April 29. Firefighters split the work dousing the garage fire and protecting the rear of the home. They knocked down the main body of the fire within 15 minutes, and the blaze was declared under control at 10:20 p.m. Overhaul was completed less than an hour later. No injuries were reported. Hawthorne Borough Hall Closed To Public Indefinitely After Workers Test Covid-19 Positive Hawthorne's Borough Hall has been closed indefinitely to the public after two employees tested positive for COVID-19. The Lafayette Avenue building had reopened to the public July 13, when the borough had no active cases of the virus, according to Mayor Richard Goldberg. There are currently five COVID-19 cases in Hawthorne. The municipal employees are treating themselves at home and do not require hospitalization, NorthJersey.com reports. Eight Hawthorne police officers tested positive for the virus at the onset of the pandemic in March.
