Montclair Police Shooting
A police officer and suspect were both injured in a shooting on Monday, April 15, authorities said. An individual in a residence began shooting at a police officer on the 100 block of Forest Street, Thomas Fennelly, a spokesman for the Essex County Prosecutors Office said. The officer was hit but was able to return fire, striking the suspect, Fennelly aid. The officer and suspect were transported to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Fennelly said. The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating, Fennelly said.

Woman Survives 16-Foot Plunge Down Elevator Shaft In Jersey City: Authorities
A 53-year-old woman was in stable condition after she fell 16 feet down an elevator shaft in a Jersey City apartment building on Monday, March 18, authorities said. The woman was found 16 feet under the first floor in the basement of 11 Gifford Ave., lying on her back, when Jersey City officers arrived just before 3:40 p.m., according to Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione, a spokeswoman for the mayor's office. A 60-year-old West New York woman suffered a collapsed lung after being pinned under a USPS truck in North Bergen Tuesday night, Jan. 30, sources tell Daily Voice. The off-duty USPS driver was turning left from 45th Street onto the Bergen Turnpike when he struck the woman crossing from west to east. Once the driver felt the impact, he didn't know if he should keep driving or stop his truck. A skydiver was flown to an area hospital with injuries suffered in an accident at a New Jersey airport over the weekend. New Jersey State Police said only that the accident happened around 1:50 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5 in a wooded swamp north of the Sussex County Airport in Wantage. The skydiver had crashed was airlifted to a nearby hospital for evaluation, New Jersey State Police said.

A 50-year-old Jersey City man was shot in the face in his doorway on Friday, Oct. 27, authorities said. Gilberto Mendez Jr., 42, of Roselle Park, was swimming off Fifth Avenue just after 6 p.m. when he began struggling in rip currents, Belmar Borough police said. Parachuter Flown To Hospital Following Sussex County Skydiving Accident, State Police Say
A parachuter was flown to the hospital following a skydiving accident in Sussex County, state police said. The parachuter got stuck in power lines at the Sussex Airport in Wantage around 9:35 a.m. on Saturday, August 13, NJSP Trooper Charles Marchan told DailyVoice.com. Troopers rescue the parachuter from the power lines as a medical helicopter landed near the scene to assist with transportation. The parachuter was then flown to a nearby hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries, Marchan said. Additional details were not released.

A BMW that ran a red light struck an ambulance, sending two EMTs and a passenger in the vehicle to the hospital over the weekend in Elizabeth, authorities and sources said. Two cats and a dog died in a pre-Christmas fire that severely damaged a Bergenfield home. Firefighters who responded within three minutes were met by flames on the first floor of the 2½-story Lunn Avenue home shortly after 1 p.m., Bergenfield Fire Chief Edward J Kneisler III said. Jersey City Contractor, 44, Dies After Falling 9 Stories Down Elevator Shaft
A 44-year-old contractor fell nine stories to his death at a Jersey City construction site Wednesday morning. Jersey City’s police and fire departments responded to 136 Summit Ave., where the man was found unconscious around 7:45 a.m., Jersey City spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione said. A 13-year-old girl was clinging to life after responders pulled her from a backyard pool in Mahwah on Thursday. The girl was among visitors to a Snow Drive home when she drifted into the deep end, responders said. Man Tells Police He Was Robbed Of $10K In Jersey City
Police say robbers may have specifically targeted a Jersey City man Thursday morning and gotten away with a large amount of cash. Officers responded to 484 Mercer St. a little before 10 a.m. on a report of a robbery, a police spokeswoman said. The 61-year-old victim said he was robbed of about $10,000 and the robbers used a stun gun. The victim was treated at an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, the spokeswoman also said. No other information was immediately available Thursday afternoon.
