Hoboken PD: Three Unlicensed Teens Busted Trying To Steal Toyota Left Running On Main Drag
Three Hudson County teenage boys attempted to steal a Toyota that was left unlocked and running on the side of a busy Hoboken street Sunday evening, authorities said. Police in Hoboken saw a man chasing after a black Toyota in the middle of Washington Street just after 5:10 p.m., authorities said. Two 15-year-olds and a 14-year-old from Kearny were then seen getting out of the Toyota and running westbound from 5th and Washington Street before officers stopped them near Garden Street, Hoboken police said. A 5-year-old boy was rescued and a 41-year-old man arrested after an hours-long SWAT Team standoff in Hoboken Friday, authorities said. The unidentified man was charged with child endangerment and the boy was reunited with his mother after the more than 5-hour standoff, Hoboken Police Chief Kenneth F. Ferrante said. Hoboken police responded to reports of a possibly endangered family on the 700 block of Garden Street, after social workers could not contact them, Ferrante said. 19: Hudson County Charter School Goes Remote After Student Tests Positive
A Hudson County charter school switched to entirely-remote learning after a student tested positive, reports say. The Elysian Charter School in Hoboken closed last Friday after the case was reported, NJ.com says. The Garden Street school services children in grades Kindergarten through 8, and is one of three charter schools in the city. Federal Homeland Security Agent Charged In Hit-Run That Seriously Injured Hoboken Cyclist
A 32-year-old U.S. Division of Homeland Security agent who was off-duty when he seriously injured a bicyclist in Hoboken then fled surrendered to detectives, authorities said Wednesday. Ryan Varrone was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and 39 other motor vehicle violations in the crash that sent a 24-year-old New Hampshire man to the hospital early Monday morning, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. An ex-con who burglarized a Hoboken liquor store coughed on several officers at police headquarters and said he had the coronavirus, authorities charged. Darrell Rude, 33, also “kept biting and ripping off face masks and spit shields placed on his face” during processing before dawn Wednesday, state Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal said.
