A three-alarm blaze in Newark on Monday, April 22 displaced 39 people. Now the community is coming together to lend a hand. At 6:59 p.m., firefighters responded to a fire at 576 Broadway, an occupied 3-story, multi-use, multi-family building, that also houses a supermarket and El Kiosko Restaurant and Grill, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. A vacant home went up in flames in a two-alarm fire in Rahway on the evening of Tuesday, April 16, authorities said. A 64-year-old man died in an overnight fire in a home overlooking Lake Hopatcong, authorities said. Firefighters battled an overnight fire that broke out at a Fairfield building overnight. The blaze erupted just after 2:40 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 21 at Ray Place, local police said. By the time firefighters were on scene, the fire had fully engulfed the building. Firefighters responded to a fire at The Swan Motel on Tuesday, Nov. 28, Linden police said. The fire was on the second floor inside a motel room and started at 10:15 p.m., police said. Glen Rock Homeowner Burned
A Glen Rock homeowner burned his hand Monday during a small fire at his home. The Abington Terrace home just off Maple Avenue sustained minor damage in the noontime Nov. 20 second-floor blaze. The homeowner declined ambulance transport and said he'd drive himself to the hospital. Fire officials said original suspicions that a torch being used to burn paint off a baseboard caused the fire were incorrect. They didn't say how it started, however. Man Dies In Union County Fire
A man was killed in a Union County fire Friday, Nov. 3. Flames broke out at a home on the 100 block of North Avenue in Garwood around 4:50 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, local police said. Multiple 911 callers said the first floor of the structure was fully engulfed. Garwood firefighters and others from surrounding jurisdictions responded, and neighbors said a victim may be inside, Garwood police said. Firefighters found a male victim on the first floor apartment. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. The incident remains under investigation.

Fire severely damaged a landmark business that has been part of Englewood's fabric for well over a century, officials said. The two-alarm blaze at I Wides Liquors on West Englewood Avenue broke out around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31. Nobody was injured after a two-alarm fire began in the basement of a home in Linden on Monday, Oct. 30, police said. Firefighters and police responded to the 500 block of Maple Avenue on reports of a structure fire and discovered the basement blaze in a multi-family home, police said.
