A grand jury has decided not to indict Newark police officers who fatally shot a 29-year-old man in May 2023. The grand jury's vote follows an investigation into the shooting death of Everett Rand by the Office of Public Integrity and Accountability. UPDATE: A gunman shot by Newark police following the homicides of a city man and 8-year-old boy earlier this month was identified by authorities as a local ex-con with an extensive criminal record.
