First Responders Rescue Dog From The Water In Bayonne Police and firefighters Saturday responded when a runaway dog found herself in the strong currents of the Kill Van Kull between Bayonne and Staten Island. The dog’s owner was taking “Cher” for a walk around 3 p.m. at Dennis Collins Park on the banks of the waterway when she got loose. Bayonne police officers were attempting to retrieve her when she jumped into the Kill Van Kull, a strait between Bayonne and Staten Island that runs under the Bayonne Bridge.
