Two 16-year-old Newark teenagers were arrested and charged for attempting to break into vehicles in Nutley on the evening of Thursday, March 28, authorities said. Woman Struck, Killed By Vehicle In Belleville: Authorities
A 78-year-old woman was fatally struck by a vehicle in Belleville on Friday, March 22, authorities said. At 8:53 a.m., Teresita Cenit was hit by a car while walking on the 100 block of Union Avenue, Thomas Fennelly, a spokesman for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said. She was transported to University Hospital in Newark where she was pronounced dead soon after, Fennelly said. The driver remained on scene, Fennelly said. The crash remains under investigation.

A new QuickChek has opened in Essex County. QuickChek recently opened a new 4,542-square-foot store in Belleville at 190 Cortlandt Street. The store celebrated its grand opening on Tuesday, March 5. Russ Mensch The store offers no-fee ATMs, 12 fueling stations, outdoor seating and 51 parking spaces. The location will be open 5 a.m. to 1 a.m., seven days a week. Marie Strumolo-Burke, an institution in the township of Belleville died on Friday, March 8 at the age of 82, Mayor Michael Melham announced. Strumolo-Burke spent two decades on the town council, representing the 1st ward and lived in Belleville for 45 years. A graduate of Central High School, where she was valedictorian, Strumolo-Burke was founder of the Silver Lake Civic Association and served as Democratic Chairwoman. A 4-year-old boy was hurt and a man was killed in a Belleville shooting over the weekend, police said. Francis Medina, 37, was shot on the 100 block of Mill Street around 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II and Belleville Chief of Police Mark Minichini said. Three Rescued From Vehicle Trapped In Floods: Belleville PD
Three people were rescued after their vehicle got stuck on a flooded roadway in Belleville early Wednesday morning, Nov. 22. At 5:10 a.m., Belleville police were notified of a vehicle stuck on a flooded roadway near 525 Main St, officers said. Police found a 2014 Dodge Durango with three occupants inside and along with the fire department, were able to safely remove the occupants, officers said. The vehicle was subsequently towed, police said. The roadway was eventually reopened, police said.

An Essex County man was arrested in Secaucus after police said he was seen peering into an apartment window on the evening of Sunday, April 30. Jason Rosario, a 30-year-old Belleville resident, was spotted on scene by officers and began to run, police said. He got into a car and police initiated a traffic stop, where he was later arrested and charged with attempted burglary and criminal trespass, officers said. Driver, 66, Hospitalized In Route 17 Rollover
A 66-year-old driver was hospitalized following a rollover crash on Route 17. The Belleville woman's Hyundai overturned outside the Element New York Wood-Ridge hotel on the highway's southbound side shortly before 9 p.m. Monday, April 10. She was extricated from the vehicle and taken to Hackensack University Medical Center with head and arm injuries, responders said. A report that another occupant was also hospitalized with lesser injuries couldn't immediately be confirmed. Hasbrouck Heights police joined their Wood-Ridge colleagues at the scene.
