Newark Police Sgt. Kenneth Brown Dies At 53: 'Exemplary Police Officer' Newark Police Sgt. Kenneth Brown died on Sunday, Jan. 21 after being hospitalized following a series of illnesses, according to a fundraiser launched to support his family. Brown joined the Newark Police Division in 1997 and was promoted to sergeant in Jan. 2019.
