Robert Brack, 73, Of West Caldwell; Earned Silver Star In Vietnam

Robert F. Brack Sr. of West Caldwell died Nov. 22. He was 73 years old.

He is survived by his wife, Rosa; children Nicole Pezzola, Brian Brack and Bobby Brack, and his wife Christine; grandchildren MIcaela, Dante and Penelope; and his former wife Barbara Brack, mother to their children. 

Robert Brack was a combat veteran of the Vietnam War, serving four tours as a staff sergeant with Special Forces Group with the U.S. Army Airborne in Khe Sanh, A101 in 1965; I Corps C-Team S-2 and Psy Ops 1966; in Thuong Doc, A-109 in 1968; and in a mobile strike force from 1967 through 1968.  

He earned a number of medals and citations during his service, including a Silver Star; a Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster with V device for Valor; Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry for Valor; a second Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, with Palm; a Purple Heart; a Combat Infantry Badge (1966); six Over Seas Combat Service Bars; a GCM 2nd Award; National Defense Service Medal; Airborne Parachute Badge; as well as five campaign ribbons. 

Following his military service, he became a police officer with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and served 25 years before retiring in 1996. 

Arrangements were by Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home in Fairfield. He is to be interred at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va. 

Anyone wishing to pay tribute to his life is asked to keep veterans in their thoughts and to greet them with this phrase he used: “Thank you for your service and welcome home."
