Club Fair Controversy: Bergen County High School Principal Issues Statement
Fair Lawn High School's principal has issued a statement following a news report alleging anti-Semitism at a recent club fair. A report by the NY Post published Sunday, Oct. 6 says that Israeli flags and yellow ribbons representing the Israeli hostages Oct. 7, 2023 were banned at the Wednesday, Oct. 2 club fair, as administrators felt they were "too political." Pascack Valley, Hills High Schools Remove Racist Mascots
Two Bergen County sports teams are no longer named the Cowboys and Indians. The Pascack Valley Regional High School District Board of Education voted unanimously to remove the nicknames and logos during Monday's virtual meeting. The teams will be assigned new names in a “thoughtful and expeditious manner," according to the PHHS student newspaper. Murphy Orders Flag With Confederate Symbol Removed From Jersey City Park
Acting at the request of a Jersey City lawmaker, Gov. Phil Murphy Friday ordered that the Mississippi state flag be removed from Liberty State Park because it incorporates the Confederate "Stars and Bars" emblem. In an announcement on social media, Murphy, a Democrat, said "The Confederate symbol does not reflect New Jersey’s values of inclusivity and equality." He went on to thank state Sen. Sandra B.
