Employees at the Timepiece Collection store on East Palisade Avenue realized what was happening and "were put in fear" by the pair, who fled with a trio of Audemars Piguet watches just after 5 p.m. Monday, Detective Capt. Timothy Torell told Daily Voice.
"They were quite shaken up," he said, adding that none were injured.
While one kept them busy, the other "reached behind an unlocked case, removed the watches and placed them into a bag he came into the store carrying," Torell said.
The two then fled from Timepiece going south on Grand Avenue.
One "spoke with some type of foreign accent, or at least a feigned or altered one," Torell said. "He had gray face stubble and was wearing glasses.
"He also appeared to have dreadlocks tucked up under what is commonly called a 'rasta hat” or “dread(locks) hat.”
The other, who didn't say anything, was wearing a “New Jersey Born & Raised” t-shirt.
He was described as in his 30s to 40s with facial hair.
The Bergen County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Identification collected what Torell called "significant" forensic evidence.
Detectives were reviewing surveillance images of the robbers, he said.
"Because at least one of the suspects made no effort to conceal his face, we are confident he is most likely from out of our area – maybe New York City or farther," Torell said. "It is common, with similar-type thieves, for these teams to be highly mobile throughout a particular area of the country.
"We believe the images captured are more than enough for anyone in the public, who knows these men, to recognize them and phone their identities in to either our Detectives at 201-568-4875 or the Bergenfield-Englewood-Teaneck-Hackensack Crimestoppers line at 1-844-466-6789.
"Cash rewards will be given out to any tipsters who significantly assist us in our investigation," the captain said.
