Officer Niamh McGuinness was on patrol Saturday night when she spotted a grey Dodge Durango parked behind the school.
Drawing closer, she saw two men “stealing scrap metal and debris from a construction debris recycling dumpster,” Higgins said.
While detaining the pair, McGuinness found in imitation handgun in the front passenger sun visor, the chief said. Both were later released pending court appearances.
Anthony G. Phoenix, 49, and Claude Aiken, 48, are both charged with theft, criminal trespass and two counts of possession of an imitation firearm, one for having it on school property.
Phoenix, who was wanted on several criminal and traffic warrants, received an additional count of hindering apprehension for identifying himself his brother, Marshall.
