Kwasi Mendoza, a former clerk for Bergen County Superior Court Judge Robert Contillo, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on North Dean Street near Brookside Cemetery around 3 a.m., Englewood Police Chief Lawrence Suffern said.

Suffern said the Lexus hit an abutment and that initial indications are that “there were no obvious contributing factors.”

An investigation that includes an autopsy was continuing, the chief said.

Mendoza, a Bergen County Academies graduate, recently was living with his parents in Englewood working as an intern for attorney Henry G. Klein as he pursued his J.D. degree at Rutgers School of Law in Newark.
