"The biggest thing I talk about is self care," she said. "Even I don’t take care of myself. I rearranged my life for my family and still don’t take care of myself."
During 15 years in the corporate world, Walton managed big-name web sites such as Ok Cupid, Tinder, Home Shopping Network, Lifetimetv.com, iVillage.com, iAmplifly.com and Mindspark.
She also helped create cellphone emoticons.
It was a busy life -- that is, until her children, Jack and Emma, were born.
"I would wake up in the middle of the night and cry because I was missing their lives," she said. "I realized I was not really happy if I invented another smiley because I wasn’t there for them....I wasn’t the mom I wanted to be."
Walton stopped working -- for a time. Soon after she began sharing her experiences, while urging other moms to take some time for themselves, on betterwaymoms.com, launched on Mother's Day in 2009.
A recent post concerned her internal struggle when Jack, now 8, asked for a cellphone.
Putting her money where her blog is, Walton recently launched a line of organic, gluten-free and vegan skin care products -- sugar scrubs and body butters, among others.
"'Nourish your hands, nourish your world," became a mantra.
"If I get women to just slow down and breath, it will be a success," she said.
The line is available at three local stores: Verdi blu in Glen Rock, Cooktique in Tenafly and The Lavender Patch in Cresskill.
