Anti-Semite Was Fresh Off Breakup When He Went On Crime Spree Targeting 'Devil' Jews: Report
A 27-year-old Jersey Shore man had recently broken up with his girlfriend before he went on an hours-long crime spree targeting Hasidic Jews, who he referred to as "the real devils," NJ Advance Media reports. Dion Marsh was found clutching a machete on a bed in his Manchester home when police found him last Friday night, after he struck two victims with his car and stabbed another, the outlet said. Marsh also told family members it was "going to be a blood bath," NJ.com says citing court documents. Marsh, of Manchester, approached a 2016 Toyota Camry, near MLK Drive and Pine Street, assau…

Carjacker's Anti-Semitic Jersey Shore Rampage Sparks Sadness, Outrage
Jewish communities around the world were left reeling following a series of anti-Semitic attacks against Orthodox Jews carried out by a carjacker on the Jersey Shore last week. All three victims of 27-year-old Dion Marsh's violent crime spree in Jackson and Lakewood were believed to have been Orthodox Jews. Marsh struck two pedestrians and stabbed a victim before his arrest on Friday, April 8, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said. The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) was "saddened and outraged" by the attacks. “I am personally horrified at the cruelty with which the suspect alle…

Jackson Township Officials 'Weaponized' Zoning Laws To Suppress Orthodox Jews, State Charges
Jackson Township officials “weaponized” zoning laws against Orthodox Jews, making it difficult for them to practice their religion while discouraging others from moving in, state authorities charged Tuesday. Mayor Michael Reina and members of the township council, planning board and zoning board of adjustment devised the anti-Semitic scheme to stop what a former official called “the tsunami of orthodoxy that is mounting at the border," alleges a lawsuit filed by the state. The group was trying to appease a number of intolerant residents who complained to them at public meetings and in hatef…

US Government Sues Jersey Shore Town For Discriminating Against Orthodox Schools
Jackson Township is discriminating against Orthodox Jews through zoning ordinances that “intentionally restrict the operation of religious schools and housing associated with such schools,” including yeshivas, the U.S. Justice Department said Wednesday. The ordinances were enacted and used “against a backdrop of extreme [animosity] by Jackson residents and township decision makers toward the Orthodox Jewish community and a movement by residents to keep Orthodox Jewish community members from settling in Jackson,” the government contends in a lawsuit. Jackson’s planning board applied a pair o…

Mahwah Settles State Lawsuit Charging Township With Discriminating Against Orthodox Jews
Mahwah has settled a lawsuit brought by state authorities accusing the township of discriminating against Orthodox Jews primarily from Rockland County. A $350,000 payment from the town won’t have to be made if it can go four years without adopting any future ordinances “that impose similar, discriminatory restrictions,” Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal said. Grewal's predecessor, Acting Attorney General Christopher Porrino, brought the suit last year after the Township Council adopted what his office said were two discriminatory ordinances -- one banning non-residents from using Mahwah’s p…

Move To Recall Mahwah Mayor Fueled By Memory Of Deceased DPW Chief
Amid intense acrimony over state charges of discrimination and nasty political bickering in Mahwah, a group of volunteers gathered and delivered 5,000 signatures -- over 800 more than they needed -- seeking a November vote to recall Mayor William Laforet. The Committee to Recall Mayor Laforet says it had an even higher calling than the latest headlines: Committee leader Melanie Sue said the recall was initiated mostly to honor the legacy of deceased DPW Director Ed Sinclair, NJ.com reports. Laforet suspended Sinclair from his post after claiming that child pornography was found on his compu…
