The Stone Pony Turns 50: Iconic NJ Music Club Prepares For Anniversary Celebration
A historic concert venue on the oceanfront of Asbury Park known for launching the careers of Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi is celebrating its golden anniversary. The Stone Pony said it will kick off its 50th anniversary celebration on Thursday, Feb. 8, a half-century to the day the music club opened on North Ocean Avenue. The kickoff event starts at 7 p.m. and will include a special set by Lee Mrowicki, an original DJ at the venue. Support is pouring in for the co-founder of Passaic County's first craft brewery after suffering a stroke. More than $13,300 had been raised on a GoFundMe for Steve Bauer, who helped the mayor cut the ribbon on Ghost Hawk Brewing Company in Clifton last April. Bauer's co-founder Thomas Rachelski, Ghost Hawk's president, created the online campaign for Bauer -- noting it was the least he could do to help someone who's done so much for others. First, he ran to Boston. Now, he's running across America. Chiropractor and acupuncturist Larry Grogin set out next summer will set out from Paterson to Ventura, California -- that's 2800 miles. He'll run 32 a day and won't stop until he gets there. "It's not going to be a story about the Larry Grogin run it's a story about America," he said. "A story about the people that I get to meet."
