Repeat Package Pirate From NY Nabbed By Rutherford PD In FedEx Thefts
A habitual offender with an apparent affinity for FedEx packages was identified and charged by Rutherford police who caught him in the act, authorities said. A Rutherford police officer responding to a call of a FedEx box burglary on May 8 spotted Thomas Mensah trying to crack open another one, Police Chief John Russo said. Mensah, 25, of Flushing, NY fled in a vehicle with stolen license plates, the chief said. The latest forecast has increased the amount of snow in what's expected to be the first winter storm headed to the region Monday, Feb. 27. Up to eight inches was being predicted as of Monday morning by the National Weather Service, for the areas north of Route 80 in North Jersey and the Poconos. A 25-year-old man who killed his mom and hid her body in the family's North Jersey home in an effort to expedite his inheritance of her $11 million savings has been sentenced to prison. Another round of winter weather is headed to the area overnight, meteorologists say. Snow and sleet are expected to be heaviest in the Poconos — which could get up to six inches, the National Weather Service predicts. A warm weekend could come to a cold and snowy end in New Jersey, forecasters say. Between one and three inches is being projected in parts of Central and South Jersey Saturday evening into Sunday morning, AccuWeather.com reports. More than $250,000 worth of checks and money orders were stolen from post office mailboxes in North Jersey by a group of thieves from the Bronx who quickly converted them to cash, federal authorities said. Crew members operated for nearly 14 months, stealing checks and money orders from the mail, altering them, depositing them into bank accounts and withdrawing the proceeds before the victims discovered the fraud.
