An Air Force veteran from Burlington County has been nominated as the next New Jersey Adjutant General, Gov. Phil Murphy announced. Effective Monday, July 1, Colonel Yvonne L. Mays of Lumberton Township also would become the state's first black woman in the state's history to head up the New Jersey National Guard. A Queens man was sentenced Wednesday to 30 years without parole in federal prison for trying to support ISIS, followed by another eight years for assaulting a federal correctional officer. A Jersey City landlord says the COVID-19 moratorium on evictions has kept her from booting a renter claiming to be a Santeria doctor who was found with nearly two dozen farm animals -- dead and alive -- in the house, according to a new report by the Daily Beast. The CDC has initiated a multi-state investigation after a Chester County family adopted a dog from the Middle East that was later determined to have a previously eradicated variant of rabies, reports say. The dog was one of 34 animals that were flown from Azerbaijan to Chicago's O'Hare International Airport by an animal rescue group on June 10, CBS reports. Gas Prices Reach Highest Point In Nearly Three Years, AAA Reports
There is no relief in sight for area motorists at the pump, as the national gas price average has hit its highest point since the summer of 2015, with prices now topping $3 an hour in much of the area. As of this week, national gas prices reached an average of $2.71 per gallon, four cents lower than the high of $2.67 from last year, and prices are only expected to keep rising, according to the latest report from AAA.
