NJ Transit Rider Who Spit On, Beat Driver With Umbrella Sought By Police
Police are on the hunt for a woman who they say assaulted a New Jersey Transit bus driver in Newark. Surveillance video shows the suspect spitting on and hitting the driver with an umbrella around 1 p.m. Thursday, April 7 at Martin Luther King Boulevard and Clinton Avenue, Newark Public Safety Director Brian A. O’Hara said. The driver told officers that as she stopped the bus so that a woman could board when she saw her running toward the bus, they said. Police in Newark are turning to the public in locating a 13-year-old girl. Lalilani Vargas was reported missing from the 100 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard Monday, Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose said. Lalilani was last seen at 7:40 p.m., wearing a black and yellow plaid shirt, brown crop top, light denim jean jacket, black Nike sneakers, black small nap sack with red lips on it and a black baseball cap. Update: Seven Shot, One Killed Within Minutes In Newark Tuesday Afternoon
UPDATE, 7 p.m. -- Newark police said one of the victims, a male, was killed in the shooting at Martin Luther King Boulevard. Two females suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Also, about five minutes after the first shooting, a total of four males were wounded by gunfire at 200 South Orange Avenue. None of the injuries are life-threatening, police said.
