Bear Jumps On Roof, Hangs Around Wawa During Trek Through Hudson County
A black bear was spotted in some unusual places this weekend in Hudson County. The animal was first reported near the Kearny Wawa around 4 p.m. Saturday, then at the Red Bull Arena in Harrison. Approximately 12 hours later, the bear was spotted on top of a business at Cleveland and Passaic avenues. Police said the bear eventually climbed down and ran across the street to the Hampton Inn. Authorities: Carlstadt Officer Not Fooled By Wanted Newark Driver Switching Seats
A wanted Newark man tried to avoid detection by switching seats with his passenger when a Carlstadt police officer stopped him for making an illegal turn, authorities said. The silver Nissan that illegally turned right off northbound Route 120 into the Hampton Inn parking lot also had tinted windows and an obstructed license plate when Officer Matthew Bartlett stopped it, Police Chief Thomas Berta said Monday. The vehicle shook heavily as Bartlett approached it – the result of 22-year-old Shareef Kamara swapping seats with a female passenger who had her young daughter with her, Berta said. …

SWAT Team Seizes Ridgefield Park Hotel Couple With Gun, Hollowpoint Ammo, Police Say
A Bergen County Regional SWAT team played a major role in the arrest of two Ridgefield Park hotel guests who police said had a gun with hollowpoint bullets in their room. Village police alerted the SWAT team afternoon after an employee at the Hampton Inn on Route 46 reported spotting the gun and drugs just before 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Lt. Joseph Rella said. Adjacent rooms were evacuated before the SWAT team eventually seized James Douglas Ray, 55, and Evelyn Christine Solomon, 46, he said.
