A longtime Saddle Brook resident who was killed in a fiery wrong-way crash in Sussex County last week was laid to rest. Janet Esser, 58, was driving a Ford Escape that crossed the double-yellow lines and crashed head-on into a Freightliner box truck on Ross Corner Sussex Road (Route 565) in Wantage Township last Wednesday, May 11, authorities said. Her SUV burst into flames, killing her, NJ State Police said. An investigation was continuing, they said, without speculating on a cause. Bergen Funeral Home Provides Burial With Honors For One Of Last WWII Vets
TRIBUTE: A final farewell for one of the last remaining veterans of World War II's Normandy Invasions was all paid for when disaster struck. Eugene W. Dednam of Hackensack died last month, just weeks after turning 100. He had no known survivors. Jeff Joseph Matthews of Hasbrouck Heights died on April 10 surrounded by his family. He was 18 years old. Jeff was born in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Paterson, to Robert and Kathy (nee Chapman) Matthews. Though he struggled his entire life with special needs, Jeff’s sense of humor was legendary; he spread smiles and laughter wherever he went.
