NJ Company's Experimental COVID Drug Could Be Major Game-Changer
New Jersey drug manufacturer Merck & Co. and Ridgeback Biotherapeutics on Friday said the new experimental COVID-19 drug significantly reduces hospitalization time and chance of death for 50 percent of patients with mild to moderate cases. In light of the new findings, the Kenilworth-based company has stopped the drug's trial to apply for emergency use authorization. Molnupiravir is an oral pill and inhibits the replication of the virus inside of the body. “The news of the efficacy of this particular antiviral is obviously very good news,” White House chief medical advisor Dr. Ant…

There is currently no FDA-approved treatment or cure. Connor will eventually lose the ability to walk, talk, and feed himself, DiChiacchio wro…

Report: Risk Of Getting COVID After Vaccine Low As Shark Attack, Plane Crash
Government data released last week show that 5,800 fully vaccinated Americans still got COVID, anyway. Which means what? “That may sound like a big number, but it indicates that a vaccinated person’s chances of getting Covid are about one in 11,000,” the New York Times reports. Put another way, “either zero or one vaccinated person will die today from Covid,” David Leonhardt wrote. Compare that with the estimated 100 U.S. vehicle deaths each day, he added. The risk becomes clearer when considering President Biden's announcement Wednesday that the United States this week is exceeding 200 …

A business owner told a federal judge in Newark that he sold men’s herbal supplements nationwide that were spiked with the prescription ingredient in Viagra. A Bergen County nurse admitted cashing in on a multi-million-dollar health insurance scam by pushing and writing prescriptions for customized drugs that patients didn’t need -- and doing it without a license. The co-owners of a pharmaceutical marketing company paid Jennifer Nash, 51, of River Vale, to pitch and prescribe the particular drugs, known as “compounded medications," Acting U.S. Attorney Rachael A. Honig said. “Not only did Nash write these prescriptions regardless of whether a health insurance plan beneficiary needed such a medication,” Honig said. She also wrote them eve…

These NJ Hospitals Are 'Weeks Away' From Getting Early Doses Of
Covid-
19 Vaccine
It's only a matter of weeks before several New Jersey hospitals receive an early shipment of the COVID-19 vaccine, state officials said. As part of Operation Warp Speed, the nearly half-dozen area hospitals will get the frozen shipments of the vaccine to keep in Arctic-level sub-zero freezers -- even before it's approved by the FDA. While no dates were given, New Jersey was "weeks away from the first doses of a vaccine being ready for distribution to our health care workers... and months away from a vaccine being readily available for public distribution," Gov. Phil Murphy said. …
