President Donald Trump was expected to declare a national state of emergency Friday to quickly deliver billions of dollars in federal aid to states in response to the global coronavirus pandemic, according to several reports. The declaration -- expected at a 3 p.m. news conference from Washington -- will immediately trigger FEMA financial and physical aid to states and municipalities under the 1988 Stafford Act, which makes up to $40 billion in federal money available. Gov. Murphy Declares State Of Emergency In North Jersey Following Torrential Rains
Governor Phil Murphy on Tuesday signed Executive Order 33 declaring a state of emergency in Bergen, Essex, Monmouth, Ocean, and Passaic counties as a result of this past weekend’s torrential rains. UPDATE: Three firefighters had to be treated for heat-related injuries -- one of whom was hospitalized -- after a cigarette ignited a rapidly-spreading blaze that ripped through a townhouse complex in New Milford on Sunday. The fire rekindled hours later, requiring firefighters to return to fully douse it. Elevated CO Levels Force Evacuation Of Lyndhurst Apartment Complex
LYNDHURST, N.J. -- Six residents of a Lyndhurst apartment complex refused medical attention after being affected by elevated carbon monoxide levels overnight, authorities said. Firefighters began evacuating The Station at Lyndhurst Apartments on Chubb Avenue around 11:15 p.m. Thursday, residents said.
