Paul Auster, Acclaimed Author, North Jersey Native, Dead At 77
Paul Auster, who won numerous literary awards and published "The New York Trilogy" died on Tuesday, April 30, at the age of 77, his literary representatives announced.
Born in Newark, Auster was raised in South Orange before graduating from Columbia High School in Maplewood. He initially garnered attention after publishing his memoir "The Invention of Solitude," which discussed his father's death.

Ex-Bergen, Passaic, Essex Teacher Admits Sex Trysts With Students
Jury selection for her trial was under way when a former teacher in Bergen, Passaic and Essex counties admitted having sexual encounters with male students in Maplewood, authorities said.
In exchange for her guilty plea to three counts of aggravated criminal sexual contact, Nicole Dufault, 40, of Bloomfield, will be sentenced to five years in state prison, among other penalties.
Authorities arrested the divorced mother of two in September 2014 on charges of aggravated sexual assault against several students at Columbia High School, where she’d been a language arts teacher for nine years.

Irvington Native, Fugees Member Pras Charged In Obama Donation Scheme
One of the founders of the hip-hip group The Fugees was indicted for allegedly assisting in a scheme to funnel illegal foreign donations to the Obama presidential campaign in 2012, The Guardian reported.
Prakazrel Michel, 46, known as Pras, pleaded not guilty to conspiracy and related charges stemming from the scheme, in which a Malaysian businessman, 37-year-old Jho Low, tried to funnel nearly $22 million to Obama’s campaign.
