Leonia Scouts Surpass Thanksgiving Food Collections Record FORT LEE, N.J. — Cub Scout Troop 71 in Leonia had a record-breaking collection of pantry and Thanksgiving goods for those in need. “Families want to have a real Thanksgiving, so we like to add stuffing or sweet potatoes,” said organizer Bernadette Flaim. The Scouts collected 564 bags of donated goods, surpassing their previous high of 400. They worked in designated areas, with troop leaders following up on routes to check for any final bag donations. Rutherford Band Carries Tune In Memory Of Longtime Conductor RUTHERFORD, N.J. — A community band is carrying on a nearly 75-year tradition of music in Rutherford following the death of longtime conductor Ray Heller in September. Heller, was 86, "was very encouraging," said percussionist Tom Monroe, the Rutherford Community Band president. Ridgefield Students Turkey Trot To Raise Funds For PTA RIDGEFIELD, N.J. — Students from three Ridgefield schools will each conduct Turkey Trot on Wednesday to raise money for field trips, events and other needs. Students are asking family and friends to sponsor them with a flat donation of $5 or more before they set off in their gymnasiums, courtyards and parking lots. “It’s something fun to bring them together, and it is fun for them to ask others for donations,” said Tammy Martinelli, the Ridgefield PTA's corresponding secretary.
