A suspect was at-large after a 3-month-old infant was found inside of an abandoned Mercedes Benz SUV with a Texas plate in Newark on Tuesday, Oct. 18, authorities say. Irvington police had alerted several municipalities in Essex County and the Child Abduction Response Patrol Units that the gold SUV was taken from the 1100 block of Clinton Avenue in Irvington at 8:09 p.m., according to the Essex County Sheriff's Department. Acting New Jersey Attorney General Matthew J. There's a bird flu outbreak in the United States, but so far only wild ducks have been infected in New Jersey, specifically in Cape May, authorities said. While the outbreak is driving up the price of eggs and chicken nationwide, properly cooked foul is harmless to humans even when it's infected by the flu, agriculture experts say. Retesting was needed for nearly 500 people whose saliva samples taken at a Maryland testing site had expired, local health officials said. The 471 PCR tests taken on Jan. 10 at Ripken Stadium were sent to a backup lab in Texas after the Harford County Health Department's primary lab had a COVID-19 outbreak, officials told multiple news outlets. By the time the tests arrived at the backup lab, they had expired, the outlet said. Rapid tests were not impacted. Anyone who was tested at the Ripken Stadium testing site on Jan. 10 is urged to get retested.
