Authorities are investigating after Anthony Ambrose, the former chief of detectives for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office, accidentally shot himself on Friday, March 22. The incident occurred at a private office complex in Cedar Grove, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II said. A 20-year-old Linden who had been missing for more than a week was found dead in Newark after falling from the Pulaski Skyway into an automobile yard, authorities said March 3. A widespread search was launched for Jeffrey Mendoza after he was reported missing around 9:45 p.m. Feb. 21. Man Burns Face After Trying To Light Cigarette Sparking Oxygen Tank Fire
A Newark man was taken to the hospital with burns after an apparent oxygen tank fire, authorities said. Firefighters responded to the 60s block of Mount Pleasant Avenue on a call of an oxygen tank rupture around 8:05 a.m. Saturday, Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose. While there was no fire, the man had burns on his face and was subsequently taken to Saint Barnabas Medical Center, according to Ambrose and RLS Media. The man had reportedly been trying to light a cigarette while oxygen was being administered, which started a fire, RLS Media says.

Repairman Takes Fatal Fall In Newark's Prudential Building
A man making repairs to a Newark building fell to his death Thursday morning, authorities said. The unidentified man fell from scaffolding on the fifth floor of the Prudential Building on Broad Street around 10:55 a.m., Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose said. He was found unresponsive subsequently pronounced dead, Ambrose said. No further information was immediately available.

A Newark man has been charged with killing and dismembering his 49-year-old coworker, authorities said. Salustino Santiago's dismembered was found on the 100 block of Chancellor Avenue on Nov. 20, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Three-Alarm Fire Rips Through Vacant School In Newark
Nearly 90 firefighters battled a three-alarm blaze at the American History High School building in Newark Wednesday, Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose said in a statement. The fire broke out at the vacant school on Warren Street around 12:30 p.m. It was brought under control in about 90 minutes, Ambrose said. A fire firefighter suffered a minor injury and was treated at University Hospital. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
