New Rochelle High School Teacher Valerie Zumbro Awarded STEM Fellowship

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- The STEM Leadership Center has selected New Rochelle High School’s Valerie Zumbro among 10 area middle and high school teachers to take part in its coveted teaching fellowship.

Zumbro, a chemistry teacher at New Rochelle High School was chosen among New York State certified science teachers after a rigorous selection process judged by a panel of STEM professionals and teaching peers.

The 16-month fellowship is designed to transform how science is taught and consists of a graduate course load and a two-week laboratory research mentorship at Regeneron Pharmaceutical’s Tarrytown, New York labs. 

By completing the course, Zumbro will earn her graduate certificate in STEM Leadership from Teachers College, Columbia University.

STEM -- short for science technology engineering mathematics -- is a White Plains-based education coalition that aggressively works to further science and related fields.
