The 2016 white Jeep Cherokee, operated by a 52-year-old woman, was stopped in the right northbound lane allowing a pedestrian to cross River Road in front the Grand Cove Community just before 11:30 a.m., Police Chief William Skidmore said.

A 2004 red Mercedes Benz CLK operated by a 61-year-old woman then plowed into the Jeep, veered onto the sidewalk and hit the pedestrian and a fire hydrant, the chief said.

The pedestrian and Mercedes driver were taken to Englewood Hospital and Medical Center with injuries that didn’t appear life-threatening, Skidmore said.

Police gave the Mercedes a summons for driving too closely, he said.

Both drivers and the pedestrian are all from Edgewater, the chief added.
