Belmar Police ID Drowning Victim From Labor Day Rip Currents
Belmar police have identified a swimmer who drowned Sunday evening, Sept. 3. Gilberto Mendez Jr., 42, of Roselle Park, was swimming off Fifth Avenue just after 6 p.m. when he began struggling in rip currents, Belmar Borough police said. Mendez and two other people were pulled from the water by lifeguards and brought to an area hospital. The two other people were treated and released, police said. 3 Hospitalized As Fire Destroys Home In South Jersey: Police
Three people were hospitalized when a fire destroyed a home early Monday, July 31 in South Jersey, authorities said. The fire at Villanova Court In Sicklerville also caused smoke damage in two adjoining dwellings, displacing a total of eight residents, according to Winslow Township police. Motorist Trapped, Airlifted In Burlington County Crash: Developing
A motorist was trapped and had to be airlifted after a crash, according to developing and unconfirmed reports. The crash occurred shortly before 5 p.m. near 275 Kettle Run Road in Evesham, initial reports said. The fire marshal confined an entrapment and a medical helicopter was requested for an airlift to an area hospital, an unconfirmed report said. Male Critically Wounded In Central Jersey Morning Shooting
One person was left critical following a shooting in Central Jersey Sunday, authorities said. The male was found with a gunshot wound around 10:20 a.m. near Remsen Avenue and Seaman Street in New Brunswick, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone said. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he remains in critical condition. Pre-Christmas Fire Severely Damages North Jersey Home
Two cats and a dog died in a pre-Christmas fire that severely damaged a Bergenfield home. Firefighters who responded within three minutes were met by flames on the first floor of the 2½-story Lunn Avenue home shortly after 1 p.m., Bergenfield Fire Chief Edward J Kneisler III said. "Because the fire was extending to the upper floors, a second alarm was requested," the chief said. Kneisler declared the fire under control in about 45 minutes. Police, firefighters and EMS crews were called to a report of a stabbing in Monmouth County, authorities said. A woman reportedly was stabbed at mid-afternoon on Tuesday in front of a Stop & Shop store on Route 36 in Keyport, according to initial reports. Four men have been charged in a double shooting in Trenton that injured a 16-year-old boy and killed 19-year-old Kuyler Fowler, authorities said. 100 Central Jersey Firefighters Braved Blaze During Blizzard, 3 Hurt
More than 100 firefighters battled a major house fire as this week's blizzard ramped up in Central Jersey, authorities said. The fire started in a wood-framed, mixed-use building on Broad Street in Manasquan shortly before 4 p.m. on Monday. The building’s owner told News 12 that three people lived on the upper floors of the building and that they were able to escape. Two residents and a local firefighter were taken to an area hospital with minor injuries, fire officials said. A malfunctioning ventilator fan was suspected to be the origin of the fire, according to initial reports.
