Update: Young Man Struck, Killed By Train In North Jersey A witness said a young man was playing chicken when he was struck and killed by a freight train overnight in Dumont. The victim was pronounced shortly after midnight Thursday, Sept. 1, after being struck by the southbound CSX train at the Madison crossing about 20 minutes earlier. A witness told responders that the young man ran across the tracks trying to beat the train but didn't make it, multiple sources with direct knowledge of the incident said. Woman Struck, Killed By Freight Train In North Jersey A woman was struck and killed by a freight train Saturday morning in Dumont. The victim, wearing a pink sweater, was struck by the southbound CSX train just north of the New Milford Avenue crossing near West Shore Avenue around 10 a.m., responders said. An ALS unit pronounced her dead at the scene soon after. The relatively short train -- for CSX--  wasn't blocking any crossings, contrary to reports, witnesses said. 3-hour Standoff: Would-Be Jumper Rescued From Bridge Over NJ RR Tracks HEROES: Crisis negotiators got a troubled woman to safety after she threatened to jump onto the CSX railroad tracks from an overpass in Teaneck. Traffic and pedestrian traffic was stopped over the Grayson Place Bridge near Palisade Avenue after the woman was spotted outside the protective fence around 7:15 p.m. Saturday, April 9. The woman apparently was waiting for a train before jumping, one responder said.
