Holy Name Tops Rankings For Quality, Culturally Sensitive Care

TEANECK, N.J. -- Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck recently received the highest rating for quality of care in northeast New Jersey by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, or CMS.

Holy Name Medical Center has been named a four star hospital by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. It is the only hospital in Bergen, Hudson, Passaic and Essex counties to receive the distinction.

In the latest annual hospital rankings released in July, Holy Name received four stars for overall quality. It was the only hospital in Bergen, Hudson, Passaic and Essex counties to be awarded four stars.

“Holy Name remains committed to providing patients with high-quality, affordable health care in a transparent, cost-effective manner,” said Michael Maron, Holy Name’s President and CEO. “These rankings will provide consumers with important metrics on quality, safety, and cost, allowing them to make more educated decisions.”

The CMS rated 64 hospitals across New Jersey, awarding just eight hospitals the four star distinction. Holy Name is the only four-star hospital in the northeast corner of the state, with Morristown Medical Center being the next closest.

The four-star rating is a summary of more than 60 measures of quality including the frequency of infections after surgery, emergency wait time, regularity of post-op patients complications and frequency of heart attack re-admittance.

Thanks to Holy Name's experience treating gynecologic and urologic cancer, multiple sclerosis, and unrelating migraines, the doctors and staff service an array of patients from throughout the New York metropolitan area. The hospital has garnered national interest due to its innovative, culturally-sensitive care, which offers an award-winning Asian Health Services program for Korean, Chinese, and other Asian patients and Familia y Salud, which serves North Jersey’s Hispanic community.

Nationwide, the CMS graded 4,599 hospitals and only 2.2 percent of hospitals across the country -- none in New Jersey -- earned the agency’s highest rating. More than half of New Jersey’s hospitals received only one or two stars.
