New Milford Police Officer Dennis Calacione was called to Madison Avenue for an erratic Porsche Cayenne driver Monday, Sept. 23 around 10:40 a.m., Police Chief Brian Clancy said.
The officer found the grey vehicle in the parking lot of New Milford Liquors, where he made contact with the driver, Christopher J. Swift, of Dumont, Clancy said.
While speaking to Swift, Calacione saw a large weapon case and "military-style" ammunition boxes in plain view, the chief said. After an investigation with help from Lt. Carlino, Lt. Herrero and Officer Rikowich, "it was determined that Swift was in possession of a loaded AR-style rifle and numerous types of ammunition. Drug paraphernalia was also located in the vehicle," Clancy said.
Swift was lodged in the county jail on charges of unlawful possession of a loaded rifle, unlawful possession of an assault firearm, two counts of possession of large capacity ammunition magazine, possession of hollow point bullets, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
