Busy Atlantic City Bridge To Be Closed Overnight Next Week
A busy bridge in Atlantic City will be periodically closed overnight next week as part of a major construction project. Crews for the state Department of Transportation (NJDOT) will work on the Route 30 drawbridge over Beach Thorofare from Monday, Feb. 26 to Friday, Mar. 1, the Atlantic City Police Department said. The bridge will be raised for 30 minutes an hour between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. each day. State police will be near the construction area to help with lane closures. A crash on the Garden State Parkway had traffic backed up for more than two miles in Brick Township in the afternoon on Friday, Jan. 12. The NJDOT says the crash happened southbound on the parkway near exit 91 B-A just before 3:30 p.m. Two lanes of traffic were closed as crews responded to the scene. The crash at about 1:40 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, snarled traffic in the westbound lanes from Camden to mid-span, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation. A crash with injuries jammed up traffic on Route 55 in Gloucester County, authorities said. Occupant Ejected In Garden State Parkway Rollover
A victim was in traumatic arrest after being ejected in a rollover evening rush-hour crash at the northern end of the Garden State Parkway, responders said. New Jersey State Police summoned a medical chopper following the crash on the southbound parkway at mile marker 166.8 Pascack Valley Toll Plaza in Washington Township shortly after 5 p.m. Given the severity of the injuries, they opted to have the unconscious, unresponsive victim taken by ambulance to Hackensack University Medical Center. Community Support Grows For 54-Year-Old Woman Killed Walking Along Route 1 In Mercer County
There has been an outpouring of community support for a 54-year-old woman from Mercer County reportedly killed by a hit-and-run driver as she walked along Route 1. Maria Angélica Moran Moreira, 54, of Lawrenceville, was hit by a northbound vehicle about 6:30 a.m. Monday near Bakers Basin Road in Lawrence Township, police said. Moreira was pronounced dead at the scene after a passing motorist who saw a woman lying on the highway called 9-1-1, reports said.
