A pair of men from Atlantic County have been arrested on multiple drug and weapons charges after a Christmas weekend crash, authorities said.

At 6:33 p.m. on Saturday, Atlantic City Police Officer Danish Mohammad came upon a two-car motor vehicle crash at Mississippi and Arctic Avenues. Officer Tyler Daily of the city's Accident Investigations Section also responded.

The occupants of one vehicle, Divier Silva, 25, of Atlantic City and Ernesto Contreras-Jimenez, 20, of Pleasantville were arrested after each was found with a loaded handgun, according Lt. Kevin Fair, Atlantic City Police Department spokesman.

Silva’s handgun was equipped with a 30-round magazine, Fair said. The officers also found more than nine ounces of marijuana in the vehicle, he said.

In addition to weapons and drug possession charges, both men were charged with intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance within 1,000 feet of a school zone, Fair said.

Both were being held in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
