At 9:46 p.m., on Friday, Jan. 6, Atlantic City Officer John Bell, while on roving patrol, observed a vehicle that was heavily tinted illegally parked in a lane of traffic in the 400 block of north New York Avenue.

Bell also recognized the vehicle as possibly being involved in an incident that occurred on Jan. 3. That incident involved a potential road rage episode that occurred in the area of Robinson and Hummock Avenues in which the suspect fired a handgun at the victim ultimately striking the victim’s car, police said.

Bell observed the vehicle had moved and subsequently initiated a car stop in the 1400 block of Absecon Boulevard. The passenger, Khalif Chambers, and the driver, Neveah Dorris, were removed from the vehicle for investigative purposes.

Officer Jesse Oliver-Logan and his K9 partner Gee were summoned to the scene. Gee, a canine trained in the detection of narcotics, ultimately gave a positive indication of the presence of drugs in the vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a loaded handgun under the passenger seat.

Search incident to arrest revealed Chambers was in possession of approximately 30 grams of suspected crack cocaine and 26 prescription Percocet pills. Officers also seized approximately $900 in cash believed to be proceeds of illegal narcotics sales.

Khalif Chambers, 19, of Atlantic City, was charged with weapons and drug offenses. He was being held in Atlantic County Correctional Facility.

Nevaeh Dorris, 20, of Pleasantville, was charged with weapons offenses and released on a summons.
