‘Devoted Father’ Succumbs To New Year’s Day Shooting, Leaving Infant Daughter Behind In MD

A new father who was shot multiple times while working as a rideshare driver in Maryland died at an area hospital, his family confirmed.

Oluwatosin Adetula, 36, died at an area hospital days after he was shot on New Year's Day while working in Cottage City, according to the Prince George's County Police Department.

Officers were called at around 10:40 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 1 to the 3300 block of Blackensburg Road, where they found the Hyattsville resident in the parking lot suffering rom multiple gunshot wounds.

He was rushed to an area hospital, where he died from his injuries on Tuesday, Jan. 7. 

Adetula left behind a 6-month-old daughter, his wife, and family, who described him as "a devoted family man who loved God, enjoyed playing and watching soccer, and cherished every moment spent with his loved ones." 

The rideshare driver, who doubles as a security professional, had an "infectious sense of humor who has touched many lives," they added.

Following his death, a fundraising campaign was set up on behalf of Adetula's family as the community rallies to support his wife and infant daughter.

"Oluwatosin Victor Adetula was tragically taken from us in a senseless act of gun violence," organizers of a GoFundMe posted. "Tosin was a devoted father, son, brother, and friend whose infectious humor touched many lives."

"As the family mourns, as well as friends, I am asking for your support," organizers wrote. "Your donation will help with the funeral costs and provision for his wife and daughter.

"Any voluntary donations will be a huge help for the family during this hard time period."
