Gusty Winds, Possible Snow Heading Toward Maryland, Virginia, Forecasters Caution
Forecasters are cautioning that some wild weather may be moving through the DMV region through the weekend as the area braces for possible snow storms in parts of the area. A "Special Weather Statement" was issued by the National Weather Service advising that wind gusts possibly approaching 50 mph may be on the way on Wednesday night, bringing with it a strong cold front and possibly a taste of winter weather in the mountains. The highly-anticipated weekend storm is under way in the mid-Atlantic. But according to the National Weather Service, the worst is yet to come. A winter storm warning remains in effect until 7 p.m. from the Baltimore/Washington DC National Weather Service, who warned of slippery and dangerous road conditions through the evening. More Snow Possible, Winter Weather Advisory Issued In Maryland
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Maryland and Washington, DC, overnight. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are possible with isolated high amounts of up to 6 inches in certain areas. The advisory begins at 9 p.m. on Jan. 6 and ends at 5 a.m. on Jan. 7. The heaviest snow is expected between 10:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. when snowfall rates of 1 inch per hour are possible. Visibility will be reduced to near or less than one-half mile.
