City resident Charles Avon Taylor, 46, has been identified arrested following an investigation into the reported sexual assault of a 71-year-old woman in the area of 4300-4400 block of North Franklintown Road in Leakin Park, authorities announced on Wednesday.

Police say that at around 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 7, Taylor struck up a conversation with his future victim and began to follow her while she was walking through the Gwynns Falls Trail before grabbing her and pulling out a handgun.

When the 71-year-old woman attempted to flee, he violently assaulted her, leaving her with severe injuries that sent her to the hospital.

Earlier this month, investigators released a sketch of the assault suspect, ultimately leading them to Taylor.

On Wednesday, Nov. 22, the Baltimore Police Department announced that he had been arrested in connection to the sexual and aggravated assault, and he was charged with:

  • Multiple counts of assault;
  • Reckless endangerment;
  • Sex offense;
  • Kidnapping and other charges.

No information about his initial court appearance has been released by police.
