Shoplifter Turned Attacker Charged With Robbery At Garden State Plaza, Paramus Police Say
A Bronx man accused of shoplifting from a store at the Westfield Garden State Plaza allegedly assaulted multiple people, including a store manager, a pursuing employee, and an elderly female shopper, authorities said.
Omar A. Ricketts, 33, was arrested and charged with robbery following the violent incident on Thursday, Feb. 20, at approximately 5:50 p.m., according to Paramus Police Chief Robert Guidetti.
Three men entered Champs Sports, and Ricketts allegedly concealed two Nike Tech Fleece jackets before attempting to leave without paying.

Two shoplifting suspects who fled from Target in Bergen Town Center on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2025, were caught by Paramus Police—one after crashing into a tree and the other while attempting to hide submerged in a brook, authorities said.

Dumont Dad, Little League Coach John Daly Dies, 55
The Dumont community is mourning the loss of John P. Daly, a dedicated father, coach, and carpenter, who died on Friday, Feb. 21. He was 55 years old.
Born in the Bronx, NY, John built a career as a carpenter with Local #157 at the Bloomberg Data Center in Orangeburg, NY, according to his obituary on the Frech-McKnight Funeral Home website.
Beyond his work, John was deeply involved in his community, serving as a coach for Dumont Junior Football and Dumont Little League Baseball. He was also a member of the Dumont Police Reserves for many years, his obituary states.
