A 48-year-old Elizabeth man was arrested and charged after he lied about being robbed at gunpoint on Friday, Aug. 22, authorities said.
Officers responded to Springfield Avenue and South 15th Street after Darryl Armstrong told detectives that three men wearing all black clothes exited a black four-door vehicle, pointed a weapon at him, threw him to the ground, and took his cellphone, Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr said.
During the investigation, the detectives reviewed surveillance video that showed Armstrong was not robbed, Miranda said.

Sergio Rodriguez, a 29-year-old member of the Dover Town Council, was arrested and charged on Thursday, Jan. 2, after he threatened to use his power to shutter a liquor store last year, prosecutors said.
On Friday, Oct. 25, 2024, Rodriguez entered a Dover liquor store and told an employee that the store’s liquor license would not be renewed if they continued to sell alcohol to individuals seen drinking in a nearby courtyard, Morris County Prosecutor Robert Carroll and Chief of Detectives Robert McNally said.

Two men were nabbed for allegedly burglarizing a Chinese restaurant and attempting to break into a liquor store.
The incident took place in Rockland County and 5 a.m., Monday, May 11, when Ramapo Police responded to a report of a commercial burglary alarm, said the Ramapo Police.
