Former Supreme Court Justice David Souter Dies David Souter, a Republican-appointed Supreme Court justice who became known for siding with its liberal wing in nearly two decades as a justice, has died. He was age 85. The court announced he died "peacefully" on Thursday, May 8, at his home in Concord, New Hampshire. No cause of death was given. The Harvard University graduate and Melrose, Massachusetts native joined the high court in 1990 after being nominated by former President George H.W. Bush. Hunter Who Shot, Killed GF With Crossbow In Maryland Learns Prison Fate A Cecil County man convicted of fatally shooting his live-in girlfriend with a crossbow inside their home has been sentenced to eight years in prison, officials announced. Jeffrey Allen Lander, 41, of Elkton, was handed the maximum sentence within Maryland’s standard guidelines for involuntary manslaughter on Tuesday, Jan. 28, following a jury conviction in November 2024.  The jury acquitted him of second-degree murder and assault, but found him guilty of involuntary manslaughter and reckless endangerment, according to the Cecil County State's Attorney's Office.
