Baltimore Firefighter Rodney Pitts III died chasing his passion: Protecting the city that he loved. Officials confirmed on Friday that the 31-year-old Pitts was the firefighter killed battling an intense blaze that broke out in a Northwest Baltimore that left four other members of his department with various burn injures, including one who is fighting for his life in critical condition. Maryland is mourning the loss of longtime Prince George's County Sheriff Melvin High, who died at the age of 78. High, who has been the sheriff since December 2010, has a lengthy career in law enforcement that dates back to 1969 when he joined the Metropolitan Police Department before eventually making his way to Maryland.
