According to health officials, the public should avoid the waters from Saint Mary Run to Toms Creek to Monocacy River, and they've cautioned that swimming or full-body immersion in those areas should be avoided.
If one comes into contact with the impacted areas, health officials said that they should wash thoroughly with soap and water, especially before eating.
"Boating and fishing is still permitted and fish may still be safe to consume if cleaned, scaled, and cooked," they added. "Pet owners should also keep their pets away from these waters."
The areas should be avoided for at least two weeks, through Thursday, Feb. 29. Signs will be posted on Mount Saint Mary’s University campus at the Saint Mary Run.
