Copper Wire Thieves Snipped Verizon Lines, Triggering Outages In Maryland, Police Say
A trio responsible for outages in Maryland is facing charges after a series of copper wire thefts from Verizon poles.
According to Maryland State Police officials, three people have been arrested after allegedly cutting copper wire from active power poles in Cecil County that caused chaos on three separate occasions for area residents.
The thefts resulted in widespread communication service interruptions and caused an estimated total loss and damage exceeding $66,000, police say.

Javoughn Berbick, 27, is facing an attempted murder charge for an alleged road rage shooting that was reported in 2024, following his arrest in May for an unrelated incident.

Suspicious Vehicle Spotted Before Maryland House Fire, Officials Say
A suspicious vehicle was spotted leaving the area just before a house went up in flames late Saturday night in Cecil County, fire officials said.
The fire broke out at 10:42 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, inside a two-story single-family home on the 5800 block of Telegraph Road in Elkton, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal, released Monday.
The fire, which caused an estimated $1,000 in damage, was discovered by a neighbor, officials said.
The home did not have a smoke alarm, and no fire alarms or sprinklers were present, they noted. No injuries were reported.
